Jamilah Hassan: Built Across Worlds

Entrepreneur, artist, TV personality, community relations leader, and founder of JH Property Connect. Jamilah Hassan joins The League on 13th July.

On Monday 13th July, The League welcomes Jamilah Hassan to Eslington Manor, Gateshead, for an evening with someone whose story refuses to sit neatly in one box.

Jamilah is an entrepreneur, artist, TV personality, and community relations leader from South Tyneside. Her work moves between boardrooms, building sites, recording studios, television sets, and the communities whose futures are shaped by the decisions made in those rooms. That range is not accidental. It is the point.

Community Before Everything

As Community Relations Manager at Banks Group, Jamilah works with communities across the North East and Yorkshire, helping local people have a voice in the developments that affect where they live. It is work that demands more than communication. It asks for trust, patience, context, and the ability to listen properly before anything meaningful can be built.

That thread runs through her wider life too. Jamilah's version of success is not detached from place. It is rooted in people, family, identity, and the responsibility to make opportunity more visible for those who come next.

Building Wealth With Intention

Alongside her community work, Jamilah founded JH Property Connect, a bespoke property investment business helping clients build long-term wealth through carefully selected buy-to-let and value-add opportunities across the North East.

Property can be a cold industry when it is reduced to yield, leverage, and exits. Jamilah brings something more human to it: an understanding that wealth is not only financial. It is security, optionality, dignity, and the chance to create a different future for a family.

The Artist

Away from property and development, Jamilah records and performs R&B music under the name Jamilah. Her songs explore identity, belonging, love, and human connection. Her recent single, African In New York on Spotify, carries a message of compassion and empathy, and speaks directly to the experience of moving through the world while carrying more than one culture, expectation, and story at once.

That artistic side matters. It shows the part of Jamilah that does not only build structures or businesses, but language, feeling, and connection. The part that notices what people are carrying and gives it shape.

From The X Factor to Bond Country

Jamilah first appeared on national television as part of girl group Desire on The X Factor. More recently, she featured on Amazon Prime's 007: Road to a Million, competing alongside her brother Asaad in a series of Bond-inspired challenges filmed across the world.

The show tested nerve, teamwork, judgement, and composure under pressure. In Tom's Guide's series write-up, Jamilah and Asaad are described as a close brother-and-sister team from Newcastle, competitive, confident, and grounded by shared family values. That feels fitting. Jamilah's story is full of big rooms and high-pressure moments, but the centre of it is still family.

Recognition and Responsibility

Jamilah was also invited to Downing Street as one of a select group of female founders recognised for their contribution to business and their communities, part of a wider national conversation about backing women-led businesses. It is the kind of recognition that looks glamorous from the outside, but the more interesting question is what someone does with the platform afterwards.

For Jamilah, the answer seems consistent: use visibility to open doors, use business to create options, use creativity to build empathy, and use success to make a positive difference in the lives of others.

What to Expect on the Night

This will be a conversation about range. About being more than one thing. About building a career that can hold ambition and service at the same time. About community, property, music, motherhood, identity, television, and what it means to keep your values intact while stepping into bigger rooms.

Expect warmth. Expect candour. Expect a story that moves through the North East and far beyond it, without ever losing its roots.
