From Territorial Support Group to SAS hostage negotiation, and now advanced trauma management. Paul 'Tosh' McIntosh joins The League on 15th June.

On Monday 15th June, The League welcomes Paul 'Tosh' McIntosh to Eslington Villa for an evening with a man whose career reads like a thriller, and whose second act may matter even more than the first.
'Tosh' McIntosh was no ordinary police officer. His career took him from the Territorial Support Group to VIP protection, and into hostage negotiation alongside the SAS. He also led the rollout of police speed cameras across Tyne & Wear. Since leaving the force, he has turned his focus to mental health, qualifying in advanced trauma management and working with those carrying the wounds others cannot see.
Few people have walked the corridors Tosh has. The Territorial Support Group is the unit deployed when ordinary policing is not enough. VIP protection demands constant calm under invisible pressure. And hostage negotiation alongside the SAS is the kind of work most of us only see in films, where a single sentence can decide whether everyone walks out alive.
Tosh spent years in those rooms. The kind of rooms that change a person.
When most people picture life after a career like that, they picture retirement. Tosh chose something harder. He chose to keep helping people, but this time from the other side of the conversation.
Now qualified in advanced trauma management, he works with people who carry injuries you cannot see on an x-ray. The veterans, the first responders, the survivors, the families. The ones whose pain does not show up in a scan but reshapes their lives all the same.
Tosh's journey is exactly the kind of arc The League was built to celebrate. Courage in the line of duty. Resilience under pressure. And the rare humility to recognise that the hardest battle is often the one no one else can see.
This is an evening for anyone who has ever wondered what it really takes to negotiate with a person on the edge, or what comes next for the people who spend their lives running towards what others run from.
Tosh will share the stories you do not read in the headlines. The lessons learned from the negotiating chair, the moments that stayed with him, and what he has come to understand about resilience, recovery, and the long road back from trauma.
Expect honesty. Expect humour. Expect the kind of perspective that only comes from a life spent on the sharp end.
